This course is a series of lectures and workshops that will develop students’ awareness of product design and innovation, from idea to manufacture. They will develop their design and interpersonal skills and consider new ways of thinking and better team building. Students will learn how to produce technical drawings in AutoCAD, render sketches and produce presentation boards in Photoshop and Illustrator, digital portfolios in PowerPoint and 3D CAD modelling in Solid Works.
The course covers a diversity of skills and knowledge, including:
- Drawing – quick and practical workshops in drawing and presentation techniques. Sketching is an important tool for designers to communicate their ideas, so students will be given the opportunity to develop their sketching skills further.
- Inclusive design – looking at how to create new concepts that appeal to the widest possible audience. Different people have different needs and abilities, so students will learn how to design a product that could be useful for a wide range of people.
- Innovation – designing new solutions that are viable and marketable. Students will explore how to develop their innovation skills and provide solutions to design problems. They will develop awareness of how to approach problem-solving and communicate ideas with other people.
